Johnny Cash

On: Thursday, January 22, 2009

My brother in Christ has made mention a few times how much he likes Johnny Cash. I started listening to his music this last week and find it very satisfying. I love my rock, and I like blues and even classical. However, I am nothing but a surface listener; I do not delve deeply into usic to study or learn about the why's and how's of music. I just like to enjoy it, and Johnny hits the spot. Maybe not for cycling, I think something a little "rock-ier" is better, but for pc time and in the car it works.
Johnny Cash: The Legend Boxed Set

Favorites so far:
Ballad of Ira Hayes
Cocaine Blues
25 minutes to Go
and many others.

I am so proud of you.

If you are ever interested I am looking at my iPod right now and I have somewhere around 12 Johnny Cash albums of various kinds (spanning every decade as well as hymns, ballads etc.).

Also, if you are looking for good cycling music - I've got that too. Try Kraftwerk's Tour de France (you will actually probably hate it but I feel like I should mention it b/c it is a bicycling concept album).

Keep rockin' the Cash - A True American Hero.

I knew you would be.

The link wasn't too bad, it was a bit monotonous.

Listening to Johnny makes me want to drink a beer and watch a western.

Funny how things spark your mood.

That's a mood? I thought booze and cowboy's was a way of life?

Which reminds me, before class yesterday I was reading L'Amour and a girl that was sitting across from me mentioned her grandfather was a big fan.

I thought to myself - yeah that's about right.

I should have been alive in 1885.

PS. You still need to check out Townes Van Zandt - that dude was a cowboy.

Johnny is the man! The kids know every word to "Folsom Prison Blues", "Jackson", and the cover of the NIN song "Rusty Cage". One of his last recordings was a song with the theme of God cutting you down when you sin. His voice was still deep, but a bit shaky. Great song though.

Oh, L'Amour. Are they as good as I've heard? I haven't read any of his books yet, but they had like 8 of them at the Thrift Store; and I had no money. When I came back they were gone. :(

L'Amour wrote many, many stories and I beleive some are much better than others. But overall, I've never put one of his books down thinking that it was a waste of time.

Other great authors:
Some of Ralph COMPTON's books,
Elmer Kelton,
Ralph COTTON (great historical accuracy)

I prefer Bonanza. 430 episodes and upwards of a half a dozen different plots! :D

I love Bonanza, very nostalgic. However, reading and watching tv are two different types of entertainment... I still prefer to read my westerns.

Brandon Briscoe said...

yeah, you are right Nic, you watch a handful of Bonanza episodes, you've watched them all.

Now The Rifleman, that's a different story.
